Over the course of 2022, RATP (Parisian transport company) is renovating the street furniture in the stations along line 4 of the Paris metro.

For this occasion, Halcyon produced a new range of colorful street furniture for SIAM, a subsidiary of the DIS group.

After RER stations, HALCYON’s knowledge and technologies were applied, from the design to the mass production of aluminum honeycomb sandwich structures. These ultra-light, ultra-strong parts can be easily deployed and handled by RATP maintenance staff (the final panel is made up – like a puzzle – of individual pieces).

For the RATP, the challenge is to enable an agent to handle one of the panel’s component parts alone – in the event of damage, for example – transported from his van parked on the surface. Thanks to the specific characteristics of our products, the necessary lightness and rigidity are guaranteed. Installation and fitting are simplified, for a colorful result that brightens up station platforms. Our parts are recyclable and require little energy during the production process, a real advantage when it comes to controlling manufacturing costs and promoting a sustainable circular economy.

Design of assembly molds adapted to the curvature of the stations, gluing, machining and, of course, installation of the aluminum honeycomb sandwiches: tailor-made for ready-to-install products, with the invaluable assistance of SFPI for the application of industrial paints (powder coating) to our panels. All of which goes to demonstrate the resistance of our production and assemblies when subjected to high temperatures!

Powder coating is a technique that can be used to select any RAL color and provide long-lasting protection for the parts to be painted, without waste. It involves two major stages.

  • First step: powder coating. An operator or robot, equipped with a spray gun, applies colored powder, which adheres to the part to be painted using the electrostatic properties of the paint particles and the surface to be covered.
  • Second step: baking or heat treatment. The powder-coated part is placed in an oven at around 200°C, to harden the powder and fix it to the surface of the part.
